This event is hosted by Christine Noble Seller of Interspecies Voices as a part of the United by Nature Series. Here we will come together to listen to the Belugas — both those held in captivity and their wild relatives swimming freely in northern waters. With open hearts, we’ll explore what the Belugas want us to know and how we can support them.
Our time together will also explore the realities faced by Belugas in captivity and the challenges their wild kin encounter in today’s changing oceans — as well as the wider themes their lives illuminate.
No previous experience is required — only an open heart and a willingness to listen. All are welcome!
More from Interspecies Voices:
This month’s marine theme continues. The Belugas — white whales of the northern seas — are known as the canaries of the ocean, carrying songs of light and sensitivity. Their presence invites us to remember the joy and intelligence that flows through all life.
The inspiration for this gathering came from what my dear colleague, Kristen Houser of Fauna Speak, described as the Belugas “tap-tap-tapping me on the shoulder every day.” The Belugas currently held in captivity at Marineland, Niagara Falls, Canada, also requested this gathering. I invited Kristen to be our featured speaker, and we now share this invitation with you!
Unlike other events that only explore human-stewarded solutions for Belugas (and other cetaceans in captivity), this gathering invites direct communication with the Belugas themselves — intuitively, collectively, and heart-to-heart. The Belugas, Kristen, and I would love to have you join us. We hope you’ll join us in listening and supporting the Belugas — every contribution makes a difference.
Celebrating all voices,
Christine
