Bioregion Swap via Snail Mail

With travel being limited, an ever-increasing curiosity for our world and a forever love of snail mail, I was inspired to host a ‘Bioregion Swap’. If you’re wondering what that is, that’s a very good question; we will be creating it together! Join me?

I would like to create a space to celebrate the parts that comprise the whole of the spaces we inhabit. The energies we might take for granted without a contrast in smell, taste, texture, color, feeling.

I love the region I dwell in, along with the regions I love who now dwell within me. Migration in all senses has always been a part of my world, so maybe we can create a migration of the senses while sharing what we love about the land we live upon, the sea we live beside, the animals we live amongst, the plants who inspire us and on and on and on.

How I imagine this all unfolding is a combination of gathering gifts from our current homes, mailing them to another participant, then gathering together over Zoom: to share, revel and celebrate the sweetness of the gifts we have received and the beauty we have understood from participating in another bioregion, while also having the opportunity to share why we love our own.

I imagined this would be a fun time of year to host this sort of exchange with the longer days and warmer temperatures creating such abundance.

Because there is a physical component to this event, set aside $60-$75 max to invest in this event from start to finish. This includes a $10 participation fee, $10-15 estimated shipping cost and the cost of your bioregion package contents (although you may spend less by creating more). You are welcome to include your own creations and encouraged to send items from other local creators. If all of this feels resonant for you at this time, I hope to hear from you and answer any questions you may have. And more details to come! The event will find it’s rhythm as folks begin to sign up (the deadline to sign up is 6-30-21 so packages can be assembled and shipped).

Email me at faunaspeak@gmail.com if you are interested in participating.

Another quick note: There might be an opportunity to request to receive from a particular bioregion, but this might also be left up to chance, depending upon when everyone enrolls. Also, I will create a checklist to give to the person who will be creating a package for you stating any of your preferences (do you really like lip balm?) and sensitivities (perhaps a certain scent).
